Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume, and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes and right prisms.
ACOS 2009 Correlation
Third Grade
12.6 - Calculating perimeter and area of rectangular shapes.
Fourth Grade
14 - Measure length, width, weight, mass, volume, and capacity using metric and customary units, and temperature using Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Fifth Grade
12.1 - Determining surface areas of rectangular solids.
Sixth Grade
7 - Solve problems involving perimeter and area of parallelograms and rectangles.
7.3 - Determining the volume of a rectangular prism.
Seventh Grade
10 - Calculate the perimeter of polygons and the area of triangles and trapezoids.
Eighth Grade
10 - Determine the area and perimeter of regular and irregular plane shapes.
11 - Determine surface area and volume of rectangular prisms, cylinders, and pyramids.
11.1 - Determining surface area and volume of solid figures, including cones and spheres.
11.4 - Developing formulas for determining surface area and volume of rectangular prisms, cylinders, and pyramids.
My Humble Opinion
Area was already part of the 7th grade ACOS. Surface area and volume have been moved down from 8th grade, although they were also addressed in elementary school.
